Improvements
Based on input received at a public meeting held in the spring of 2017, the Warren County Engineer has moved forward with a design to construct a new bridge over the Little Miami River on King Avenue/Grandin Road, approximately 300 feet upstream of the current bridge. The new bridge will consist of two 12 ft lanes of traffic with 4 ft shoulders. It will also include a separate shared-use path over the river, which could eventually connect the Little Miami Scenic Trail to a proposed trail in Carter Park. The Little Miami Scenic Trail will be realigned under Grandin Road, eliminating the dangerous current at grade crossing. A new paved parking lot with trail access will be constructed south of the river and east of Grandin Road. The roadway approaches will be improved and realigned to eliminate the sharp curves. A four-leg single lane roundabout will be constructed at the intersection of Grandin Road and the Peters Cartridge Factory development. The roundabout will keep speeds reduced while providing the safest intersection as possible at this location.

Construction Cost and Funding
The current construction cost of this project is estimated at $15,000,000. This project has received $5,000,000 in federal funding through the Local Bridge Replacement Program managed by the County Engineer’s Association of Ohio. It has also received another $5,700,000 in federal funding through the Surface Transportation Program managed by the OKI Regional Council of Governments. The project may also receive up to $800,000 in state funding through the Ohio Public Works Commission. The remaining portion of the construction cost will be paid locally with the County Engineer’s road and bridge fund.
Schedule
The project is currently being designed and is approximately 30% complete. The final design and right-of-way acquisition is anticipated to be complete in August of 2021 with construction scheduled to begin in early 2022. The majority of the work is planned to be completed by the end of 2022, with project clean-up and punch list items finalized in 2023.
